My Story

I am Cristina Nidel, a certified somatic coach and TRE provider, and my passion is helping people reconnect with their bodies to better manage stress, anxiety, and emotional challenges.

My journey into somatic therapies began in 2019 when I first read Bessel van der Kolk’s book The Body Keeps the Score. The concepts in that book captivated me, but it wasn’t until 2023, during a transformative retreat, that I truly understood the power of somatic work. That experience brought me back to life, showing me the importance of integrating the body into healing processes.

Before discovering my passion for somatic therapies, I had a varied professional path. I studied foreign languages in college and held a series of jobs—from teaching English online to working as a sales assistant, travel agent, and interpreter. Despite trying different roles, I felt unfulfilled and increasingly depressed. I realized that my true calling was in personal development and healing, a field I had deeply explored since adolescence, following my own struggles with childhood trauma.

After leaving my job as a translator, I knew it was time to give back and guide others on their healing journeys. Initially, I trained as a coach, but I quickly realized that a purely cognitive approach wasn’t enough for me or my clients. After the retreat, I knew I had to integrate the body into my work, leading me to somatic coaching and TRE.

It was a true challenge to complete both specializations simultaneously, requiring deep personal work, introspection, and stepping out of my comfort zones. I had to confront my fears—especially those related to perfectionism, public speaking, and being evaluated. But these challenges were transformative, helping me become more present in my body, reduce anxiety, and effectively manage my nervous system.

My personal healing journey has led me to a more balanced and healthier life, and now I am dedicated to helping others achieve the same. I believe personal growth is not just a value but a purpose in life. Through my work, I aim to support individuals dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and the feeling of being stuck in life.

Who Am I?

  1. I wear many hats, as we all do, but the first and most important one is simply being HUMAN. So, I’m a person living a human experience on this Earth, which means nothing about other people’s experiences is foreign to me.
  2. I am a somatic therapist, but under this hat lie several specializations: life coach, somatic coach, and TRE (Tension and Trauma Release Exercises) facilitator. Regardless of the technique I use, my goal is singular: to help people reconnect with themselves, befriend their bodies, and embrace the amazing intelligence within. Through this, I aim to help them break free from the grip of stress, anxiety, and depression, and rediscover the joy of living.
  3. I am a traveler, both through life and the world. Through life, I’ve journeyed 34 years so far, and through the world, I’ve reached 33 countries. Of them all, Italy—especially its southern regions—has captured my heart the most, closely followed by Zanzibar (I know it’s not exactly a country, but it feels like one).
  4. I’m passionate about foreign languages and fluent in “Romglish” (I’ve worked hard not to slip any English terms in so far). You could say it’s because I used to work as a translator, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. I’ve just always been this way. Beyond Romglish, I can also get by in Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian (yes, there’s a pattern there—okay, I couldn’t resist anymore!).
  5. I’m also a writer, as you might have noticed already, though so far only in my soul (and on Facebook). People tell me I’m good at it, but the little monkey in my head says they’re just being nice to avoid hurting my feelings and that it’s not actually true. If I ever manage to quiet that monkey, maybe I’ll write that book I keep talking about.
  6. I’m funny—or so people say. And I often amuse myself, too. I’m not sure how funny I really am, but one thing I know for sure: humor is one of the most essential tools we have in this human life. It has certainly saved me many times. I doubt I’d be here today if I’d taken myself—or life—too seriously.
  7. I became a wife this year, which, to be honest, surprised even me. I never imagined I’d wear this hat, but when the right person comes along… (A person I described in detail during a coaching exercise years ago, so don’t tell me coaching doesn’t work—I’m living proof that it does!).
  8. I’m also a mom—but to furry, four-legged kids. Leia and Tasha, our dogs (both rescued from the streets), brighten our days. I was involved in animal rescue for a long time, but it took a toll on my mental health. It’s a losing battle in Romania, and I just couldn’t keep up.
  9. I’m always open to learning and believe we should continue learning throughout our lives. And yes, I confess: I buy specialty books compulsively. I have about 20 waiting to be read in my library and another 60 titles saved in a folder on my phone.
  10. I’m a dancer—a mediocre one by conventional standards. I did ballet in high school, ballroom dancing for a while, and eventually tried salsa, bachata, and zouk. Since discovering somatic practices, I’ve fallen in love with intuitive dance—the kind where you move exactly how you feel. Honestly, it has changed my life. Now I believe everyone can dance—and should! If you have a body, you can dance.
  11. I am kind, gentle, calm, and empathetic—or so my clients unanimously say, and I’m genuinely glad I can be this way for them. Of course, I’m not always like this; like any human, I have less beautiful parts, but what matters is that I can be this way.
  12. And to end on a lighter note: I’m a huge fan of Italian cuisine. HUGE! I could happily spend the rest of my life eating only Italian food. And I adore Italy—did I mention that already? Here’s something I haven’t told you: my dream is to one day organize retreats there.

That’s me in a nutshell.
